Description:
Life is full of big questions: Who am I? Why am I here? Why is there suffering? Is there life after death? And – ultimately – the question we all try to find the answer to, How can I find happiness or peace of mind? But what if that search for happiness was based on a huge misconception, a misconception that has been drummed into us since birth, that we are separate individuals?
In Who?s Driving the Dreambus? filmmakers Boris and Claire Jänsch go on a personal journey through a series of interviews with eminent spiritual teachers, philosophers and writers – in a quest to unravel what it means to be alive. This radical and challenging documentary, ventures into the heart of the mystery of identity, flipping the idea of spiritual endeavour on its head, revealing a message so profound and yet so simple that it might just end the search.
Narrated by Boris Jänsch, the film opens with extraordinary footage from his actual birth filmed by his father, and it becomes clear early on that Boris? search for answers has until now been somewhat unfulfilled. This poetic and uncompromising film comes full circle as it examines birth, death and asks the big questions. No spiritual stone is left unturned as the interviews also tackle wide-ranging topics including suffering, choice and freewill, enlightenment and meaning.
At times uncomfortably honest but equally humorous Who?s driving the Dreambus? is unlike any film in it?s genre to date and delivers a message with a radically non-dualistic flavour. If you have a treasured belief system, whether it?s based on religion, agnosticism or indeed atheism, then this film may be a hard pill to swallow ? because what this film is pointing to is the end of individuality.
You may have been searching for answers your whole life but are you ready to acknowledge that there might not be any? As Tony Parson?s puts it: ?Oneness creates the idea of being a separate individual and goes around looking for something called not being a separate individual? it?s a joke, it?s the biggest joke in town? A feature-length documentary exploring life?s most profound mystery
Featuring: Dr Amit Goswami, Gangaji, Genpo Roshi, Guy Smith, Jeff Foster, Timothy Freke, Toni Packer, Tony Parsons.
DR AMIT GOSWAMI has been a professor of physics at the University of Oregon since 1968. He is a revolutionary in a growing body of renegade scientists who have ventured into the domain of the spiritual. A prolific writer and visionary, he authored the highly successful textbook Quantum Mechanics, as well as many popular books based on his research of quantum physics and consciousness, including The Self-Aware Universe, Quantum Creativity and Physics of the Soul. His two-volume textbook for nonscientists, The Physicist?s View of Nature traces the decline and rediscovery of the concept of God within science. His research has been published in scientific journals in the fields of physics, biology and psychology. He has appeared in the documentary films What the Bleep do We Know, The Dalai Lama Renaissance and The Quantum Activist.
GANGAJI was born Merle Antoinette Roberson in Texas in 1942. She grew up in Mississippi where she graduated from university in 1964. She later took Bodhisattva vows, practiced Zen and Vipassana meditation, helped to run a Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre and had a career as an acupuncturist in San Francisco. Despite her successes, she was unfulfilled, and after pursuing various paths, travelled to India in 1990 where she met her ?teacher? Papaji, a disciple of Ramana Maharshi, who gave her the name Gangaji. Today she is based in Ashland, Oregon and travels the world as a speaker and has authored several books including The Diamond in Your Pocket and Freedom and Resolve.
GENPO ROSHI is a Zen Master and author who trained under the famous Taizan Maezumi Roshi for more than 23 years. He spent many years teaching in North America and Europe before developing The Big Mind, a unique combination of traditional Buddhism and modern western psychotherapy techniques, which aims to aid personal development. He has written several books including The Eye Never Sleeps: Striking to the Heart of Zen, Beyond Sanity and Madness, 24/7 Dharma, and The Path of the Human Being.
GUY SMITH is a writer of fiction and non-fiction. At Bristol University, where he achieved first-class honours in English, his essays and dissertation linked literature, spirituality, psychoanalysis and deconstruction, and were assessed as ‘extremely fascinating and original’ and ?very frequently brilliant?. On completing his degree, he experienced a succession of ?peculiar experiences?, before the ‘sense of separation fell away’ in Spring 2004. He then wrote This Is Unimaginable and Unavoidable ? a radical work that according to reviewers ?actually manages to evoke the taste of non-duality? and that ?will reach places in you that have never been touched?. Currently, he is training in and practicing psychotherapy, and creating a novel to ‘reverberate senses on non-duality subtly, by symbol, sound and story’.
JEFF FOSTER graduated in Astrophysics from Cambridge University in 2001. Following a period of severe depression and illness, he embarked on an intensive ?spiritual search?, which lasted for several years. He has since written several books including The Revelation of Oneness, Life Without a Centre, Beyond Awakening and An Extraordinary Absence. He holds meetings and retreats in the UK and Europe to talk about ?non-duality? pointing to what he describes as ?the frustration surounding the spiritual search, the nature of the mind, and the clarity at the heart of everything?.
TONI PACKER trained in Zen Buddhism and was chosen by Roshi Philip Kapleau to succeed him at the Rochester Zen Center in New York. She instead chose to leave the traditional forms of Buddhism to work with the essence of meditative practice. In 1981 she founded the Springwater Center for editative Inquiry and Retreats. As well as an extensive library of recorded talks and dialogues, her work includes five books: The Silent Question, The Wonder of Presence, Seeing Without Knowing, The Light of Discovery, and The Work of This Moment.
TIMOTHY FREKE is an internationally respected authority on mysticism and spirituality and is often featured in print and broadcast media around the world, including the BBC and The History Channel. He graduated in philosophy and has since written more than 20 books including The Jesus Mysteries, which was a top 10 best-seller in the UK and USA and a ?book of the year? in the UK?s Daily Telegraph newspaper. Jesus and the Lost Goddess was cited by Dan Brown as an inspiration for The Da Vinci Code. Other titles include Lucid Living and most recently How Long is Now? Tim gives animated lectures and runs ?experiential? seminars in the UK, USA and Europe. He appropriately describes himself as a ?stand-up philosopher?.
TONY PARSONS is a best selling author and regular speaker on the subject of ?non-duality?. Known for his irreverence and humour, he has been communicating his ?radical message? to audiences in London and Europe, in open discussions, for more than ten years. He refers to it as the ?open secret?, also the name of his first book. His subsequent titles include Nothing Being Everything and All There Is.
