Sinopsis
Raito Yagami es un excelente estudiante japonés que ha tenido una vida aburrida. Esto cambia radicalmente cuando encuentra, tirado en el suelo, un misterioso cuaderno que tiene escrito Death Note (Cuaderno de la muerte) en la portada, y que incluye instrucciones de cómo ser usado: "Aquella persona cuyo nombre sea escrito en este cuaderno morirá".
Escéptico al principio, Raito pronto descubre la verdad tras estas palabras y planea sacarle el máximo provecho a este valioso tesoro que ha caído en sus manos librando al mundo de la maldad, en compañía del dueño originario de la Death Note, Ryuk, un Shinigami (Dios de la Muerte).
Pronto, las numerosas muertes sin explicación de criminales ponen en alerta a la policía, quienes recurren a un misterioso detective, cuyo nombre y rostro todos desconocen, pero cuya habilidad detectivesca le han brindado fama a nivel mundial: "L".
